I live in India and have this thing for languages. Lately, I’ve been thinking it might be nice to change my line and do an M.A French Translation. I’ve studied french for a little more than 4 years and think I’ve got a thing for the language.
Aside from french, I’m fluent in 3 other languages. Do you think a postgrad in French Translation is a good idea?
In what way a good idea? Do we think you could do it? Would you become wealthy this way? Are there jobs available in French translation? Would you enjoy it? Would it blend with the biology undergrad? I’m not sure what you are looking for.

Hi, I’m needing a little help with some French translations. Does anyone know how to say ‘the bastard king of sarcasm’ in French? Please help and thanks in advance!
le bâtard-roi du sarcasme in one word
i would be inclined not to translate this too litteraly it depends on what meaning you attribute to ”bastard”
i’d go for: Le roi impie du sarcasme, means non religious
or maybe : Le roi inconnu du sarcasme, means unknown
then maybe bâtard implies it’s own special meaning and can be use but i’m not really see the correlation
it’s suppose to add depth to the sarcasm attribute.

Des chansons, des filles
Songs, girls
Beaucoup de verres et de nuits
Many glasses and nights
Telles étaient nos heures
Those were our hours
Telles étaient nos vies
Those were our lives
Futiles adolescents, tout nous était permis
Empty-headed teenagers, while we were allowed
Rois de pacotille, princes démunis
Kings of junk, poor princes
On nest riche que de ses amis
One is rich only of his friends
Cest dit
It is said
Le temps des tempêtes arrive
The stormy weather arrives
Avant quon lait prédit
Before we had predicted
Amours impossibles
Impossible loves
Défaites, ironies
Losses, ironies
Quand tout sabîme, quand même nos rêves fuient
When everything breaks, when our dreams are even fleeing
Il ne reste quune île, un port, un parti
There is only one island left, a door, an exit
On nest riche que de ses amis
One is only rich of friends
Cest dit
It is said
Cest dit
It is said
Mais quand tout sallume
But when everything turns on
Quand tout enfin nous sourit
When everything finally smiles at us
Gloire, fêtes, symphonies
Glory, festivals, symphonies
Bravo, bijoux, frénésies
Bravo, jewelry, bingeing
Quand on me saoule dimposture ou damnésie
When we are drunk of imposture or amnesia
Honneur et fortune
Honor and fortune
Quen sais-je aujourdhui ?
What do I know today?
Je ne suis riche que de mes amis
I am only rich of my friends
Cest dit
It is said
Honneur et fortune
Honor and fortune
Quen sais-je aujourdhui ?
What do I know today?
Je ne suis riche que de mes amis
I am only rich of my friends
Mes amis
My friends

I want to translate the phrase "Every day with you is a gift." The straightforward way to translate it would be, "Chaque journée avec toi est un cadeau," but I’m fairly sure that is clumsy, if not incorrect. My hunch is that a more elegant translation would be, "C’est un cadeau, chaque journée ensemble." Can anyone offer any tips on this? Thanks!
your translation is very good.
Chaque jour avec toi est un cadeau du ciel!
have a look at http://www.frenchspanishonline.com it is free with mp3

I hope all is well and that you haven’t forgotten me. I will be in Paris this Friday and Saturday and would like to take you for dinner if your free. I am staying at a nice hotel and they have a wonderful restaurant. Can you join me?
Chère Marie,
J’espère que tout va bien et que tu ne m’as pas oublié. Je serai à Paris vendredi et samedi prochains et je souhaiterais t’emmener dîner si tu es libre. L’hôtel où je séjourne est agréable et ils ont un excellent restaurant. Peux-tu me rejoindre ?

I want to get one of these two phrases tattooed on my wrist.
"When words fail music speaks"
or
"When words fail love speaks"
-The first is a qoute I found, the second I thought was a twist that would make it more my own. I just want to be sure it’s the right french phrase I get on me and it’s not said wrong!
"Quand les mots échouent, la musique parle"
"Quand les mots échouent, l’amour parle"
To be honest with you, I like the second one way better, and it makes a lot more sense than the first one.
Oh, and I’ve got a wrist tattoo too! I think it’s awesome you’re getting one.

I am trying to inscribe something romantic inside a book I bought for someone, and since she is French and it is a French edition of a Jules Verne novel I would like someone to help me with the translation…
"For Sonia, whose beauty is more precious than all the treasures in all the oceans of the world. Love Warren"
Since I’ve only got one shot at it and time is a factor, please be sure of your grammar and accents, etc… Thanks so much for your help!!!
All three translations above have been witten with the help of translation sites. No French person would write "Amour" at the end of a dedication, or even a love letter, and dedications on the fly leaf inside books start with "A" and not with "Pour".
You do not want the recipient to laugh at you when she gets your offering!
A Sonia, dont la beauté est plus précieuse que tous les trésors gisant au fond de tous les océans du monde. Avec toute mon affection. Warren.
Personally I would avoid repeating the "tous" in front of "océans" as it makes the sentence heavier and is not necessary since the oceans are all over the world anyhow, but it is up to you. If her beauty is specially precious to you, then, to make it more romantic, the following would be even better:
A Sonia, dont la beauté m’est plus précieuse que tous les trésors gisant au fond des océans du monde. Avec toute mon affection. Warren
If you are madly in love with her: Avec tout mon amour.
