Aside from french, I’m fluent in 3 other languages. Do you think a postgrad in French Translation is a good idea?

In what way a good idea? Do we think you could do it? Would you become wealthy this way? Are there jobs available in French translation? Would you enjoy it? Would it blend with the biology undergrad? I’m not sure what you are looking for.

Your best bet would be to check with your college’s admissions office.

I speak two languages; Albanian and English. Albanian is kind of like Russian, German French. But that is just my opinion. My parents want me to learn Spanish and I do speak some. On a scal of 1-10 with ten being fluency i am probably a 1.9. What language would bethe easiest to learn for me? The most practical or useful? How long would they take? Also, what are some tips for learning Spanish and some good sources and how much time to reach like a 7-8 scale?

### TO THE ANSWERERS ####

I believe the asker is comparing the LEARNING DIFFICULTY of Albanian to Russian, German, and French; the asker isn’t implying that there’s any mutual intelligibility between the Albanian and Russian languages.

### TO THE ASKER ###

Spanish and Italian are simple enough for English and Albanian speakers.

I’m thinking about doing a ba in english. I was taking a visual arts degree and I made it to 4th year. I ended up dropping out of art school because the academics were so stressful in that the art academics were so circular and complicated. I excelled in the creative hands on stuff.

I really want to teach english, I love to read and I am creative. I’m thinking that an english degree would be best.
Any similar experiences would help me make a good choice
bye.

I think they are more alike than different. Your educational experience depends more on your instructors than the topic itself. "Circular and complicated" sort of describes my experience in English (my 2nd Bachelor’s degree). There are creative moments in the study of English but they can be extinguished by the mind-numbing blandness of the basics and abusive professors.

I think you need to knuckle down and finish what you start. By the time I finished college I wanted to quit many times. I only made it through by looking back on my years of effort and not wanting to squander them. I knew I’d have the choice to throw it away after I graduated, if I was still feeling self-destructive.

Both my female classmate and I enrol in a short German course. My female classmates came to my house today and said she was sexually haressed bt our German male teacher? She says she feels too frightened to report him.

I am angry with this German teacher now. I think he is such a loser.

Well you need to know if she is being real or is she taking something percieving it in the wrong way. Make SURE her perceptions are correct. It could very well be that they are not. It happens. A lot more than some may think unfortunately..

IF you MAKE SURE that this is most CERTAINLY going on then the next step is NOT to leave it to her to report this. This is my best method and she will be mad at you but I’ve faced situations kind of like these. And this is the best way to deal with this if it is totally verifyable. Or you test her, using a bias for the teacher. Regardless if you like him or not, he does not need a loss of his job and career if he is doing nothing wrong intentionally. SO here ya go (this assuming he is doing this, remember):
First method:
1. Go to the teacher, without your friend. Confront him about this in an ASSERTIVE manner (research it because it’s a very very big thing in these situations to use or it will not end well).
2. A denial of it or any reaction that is not "oh my god. I am so sorry, I did not mean to do this. Thank you so much for coming to me and it will stop immediately"-esque is unacceptable.
3. If it’s resolved by him saying he will quit, then wait and see if that happens. Or if you get a negative response in some way, then go to the second method..

Second method (plan B):

1. Go to your school GUIDANCE counselor. If NOT an in-school mental health professional that some schools do have. The guidance counselor will be best suited in some cases anyway.
2. Talk to her about the situation. Make sure to not seem like you want him to lose his job, etc. Just that you want the issue addressed because it is, reasonably, very distressing for your friend.
3. Once she knows, she will then need to call in your friend. When you confront her with this, she may be upset with you. But she will spill it all to the GC and then it will be on its way to being dealt with in the most NON-public manner. That’s the key.
4. It will take a day maybe until he is either gone, his career ruined (as it should be if he is harassing a student) and it will be totally deserved because the behavior is absolutely unacceptable and chances are she is NOT the only one. It is immoral and it is wrong and it totally makes me livid that this even goes on. They are NOT supposed to do this EVER and if I had anymore words to describe how much it irritates me I would use them. But know that this COULD or COULD NOT be happening. Assessing the situation beforehand is always necessary.

I hope he is not doing this. I hope this is a mistake. But if it is not, I hope he gets the consequences that are required and necessary for someone like this in education.

I hope this turns out for the best, dear. I really do.

I have a hard time learning a language but when it comes to math I learn more. Why is that?

Why can’t my brain apply how it learns math to learn a language as well?
Can you describe what a style is?

Learning a language is an auditory skill as we learn most vocabulary by hearing it. But Math on the other hand requires other skills, particularly, memorization of ways to solve problems, memorization of multiplication and division tables, as well as all the various ways to solve math problems. It is an intellectual skill. We all tend to learn differently. Some learn from hands on experiences. Other learn by listening, while another group learns by speaking and another learns by a combination of several ways of learning. Some kids like to do their work in an unstructured environment with loud music blaring while others need to concentrate in pure silence. So how we learn is different for every person.. Unfortunately, in most public schools, students are processed through the system by being forced to conform in a similar mold style of learning. As a result, some do not do well as their mold needs to fit their learning style.
If you are an auditory learning….try learning your math basics by making us silly songs to remember some of the things you need. Some need to use acrostics. There are tricks you can learn from some math whizzes….ask around.

At first I saw this chart on verbs: http://oasis.fortunecity.com/labreya/147/verbchart.html and then I started to look at others and came to this one: http://www.epochrypha.com/japanese/verbs/verbs.html .

Now, I’m horribly confused. It appears, all the forums of verbs can be used 20 different ways, instead of the single way the first chart shows.

My other problem is neither chart shows what the changing of the base actually accomplishes. Like, "Kaku", if I make it "Kakoo", what does that do and what am I suppose to add afterwards?

I might be getting bogged down in with all the different context — so I’m wondering if anyone can explain it to me, or if there is a completed chart with examples that’re easier to understand then these.

I’m really confused, any help would be appreciated~ ^_^

And this is why people should learn in classes and not by themselves.

Each verb has a different meaning even if the base is the same. It’s like in English where "to run" is your base and you work from there to give a sentence specific meaning.
I ran in the park.
I am running in the park.
I will run in the park.
I did not run in the park.

Because I’m not about to write a huge page on Japanese verbs, I’ll just quickly answer your question and leave it at that. If you’re really inquistive (or desperate), feel free to message me. But, either way:

Kaku = to write. It is the plain verb form and the basic building structure to figuring out how to get to other versions of this word. The basic "to write" verb form is kakimasu. But you learn "kaku" so you know how to write other versions relating to the verb "to write".

Kanji o kakimasu = To write kanji.

Kakou = basically it’s an informal "let’s write" form. The more polite version would be "kakimashou".
I have "kakou" instead of "kakoo" because my version fits better with how it would actually be written in Japanese.

Kanji o kakou = Let’s write kanji.
